A.R. Smith teaches at PennWest University and serves as adjunct professor with the Centre for Doctoral Studies, Faculty of Letters in Rabat, Morocco where he was a Fulbright Fellow (1998-99) and Fulbright Specialist (2011). He’s edited three books, including Radical Conflict: Essays on Violence, Intractability & Communication, and published dozens of essays, including “Impassable Peace: Enmity and the Frozen Figures of Intractability,” which reflect driving themes of the novel. He grew up in the rural Midwest near a university town and lived in Japan and Morocco for extended periods where he conducted his primary research. He lives in Northwest Pennsylvania.
